Church Street Commons has been
designed in a Neo-Harmonist style to complement
and revere the architectural origins of New
Harmony. Envisioned as a collection of
simple Harmonist forms, the homes then
incorporate modern conveniences with forward
thinking construction and energy saving
methodologies. Individual plans vary and
each house is capable of being constructed with
various spatial options, ranging from two
bedrooms, two bath homes of approximately 1,500
square feet to three bedrooms, three bath homes
of approximately 1,900 square feet.
Individual house designs can also incorporate
additional spaces well suited to work or studio
space either with or without public access.
All houses have been designed
with Sustainable building concepts in mind.
Passive solar features include south facing
living spaces with appropriate overhangs and
shading devices. Materials throughout are
high quality and from renewable resources.
Residences have both street side front porches,
encouraging interaction with the community, and
south facing private gardens with terraces and
“brise soleils”, in keeping with New Harmony’s
tradition of beautiful outdoor spaces.
Mechanical systems are state of the art and high
efficiency
Church Street Commons combines
the advantages of various types of home
ownership. The architectural character of
the houses fosters a sense of community and the
Homeowners Association’s joint grounds keeping
agreement provides for hassle-free living, as in
a condominium development. The single
family detached building type maintains
individual home identities, privacy, gardens and
increased natural light. The stringent
Architectural Covenants assure that all
residences will remain as designed.
